Collections

At long last, I managed to clean our shoe rack and threw away some worn out slippers. I changed the old dusty cardboard I used to protect the wood from chipping. This rack has not been cleaned since several years back. I know you are chuckling folks.

I was granted two days vacation leave from work and the following two days were my day off. Last night I thought of inspecting some stuff inside as I am running out of space where to put some shoes and slippers. As expected, most of the stuff belongs to my niece. Rubber shoes anyone? Take note you are seeing only half of the shoe rack. So, there is more.

She collects rubber shoes and comic books. She orders comic books online. She has some delivered through our post office as books are non taxable. In most cases she picks them up at her trusted courier. I have a bookcase with four shelves, almost full with books now. One time she ordered one rubber shoes online. She was sent two by mistake and to her delight.

She gave the other one to my sister. The rubber shoes, was way too big my size. Besides I am not fond of rubber shoes. What do I collect? Money of course. But despite wisely, collecting these elusive resources. I have not collected much, as of yet.

Make It Short and Simple

Thursday and Friday are my day off from work. Oh, yes I am back to work for the info of my blogger friends. I will write a separate story on how it happened, soon. I had a chance of reading some blogs.

What caught my attention are blog topics about relationships. A.K.A – Tips and recommendations how relationship would work and last in the days ahead. I read many kinds books about this topic. It seems all of them have same recommendations. Why not simply point out the simple ways how relationship would work? Here are what I have to say. -

  1. Be a responsible partner – Relationship is partnership. Be it among family members or among friends.
  2. Shun white slavery – Strong words but I simply mean abuse in relationship. You should know when to take control of the situation. Most of those who knew me personally, know I am easy to please. I seldom complain. But when I sense something is amiss. I distance myself or let the other person know, it takes two to tango.
  3.  Avoid complicated relationship – Life has so many challenges. You may not be strong enough to handle the pressure.

The Bookworm

-->
What is this young lady doing? What else but looking  at the array of books in a bookshelf. This young lady is the big girl in my earlier post titled, Some of My Treasures. This young lady is crazy about books and computers, like her auntie.  Looks like it runs in the family you say? Yes, of course. She is cute, too. Ahem! Told you, it runs in the family. I took this photo inside a bookstore in Alabang Muntinlupa City, Philippines. This was last Sept 2010, at our quick stop on our way home. She immediately took charge by browsing some books when we were inside the bookstore. Later, I guess she figured out she has other books to read at home. She resisted the temptation of taking one book to the cashier.

There is a popular theory of language acquisition called "schema" theory. Schema is an organized pattern of thought or behavior.  As children develop separate schemata for experiences they acquire. They apply these experiences in their growing years and in their adulthood. Literacy in language helped to express these schematic experiences in a form of both verbal and written communications. Books are good source of vocabularies and general knowledge. Non readers do not develop their reasoning skills and are simply dependent on intuitions. Their levels of communications are more on vernacular levels. Children who are wide readers become more literate and well rounded. Children who are good readers develop more self confidence. They know they could express themselves well.

Off to Work Today

Speaking of Christmas shopping, my apology to the daddies and mommies who do not want to think about the occasion yet, yes some of you are correct it is too early. However, the reason why I shop early is because of pre-Christmas discounted sales. I guess some of the malls in Manila are trying to dispose some of their stocks to replenish with new ones. Manufacturers instead of taking the items back. They sell the items at discounted price. I developed the technique of scouting for items that might go on sale. I checked on the original price of the items.

During mid night madness, it is how we call it here. Malls are open until twelve midnight during the sale. That is why it was called midnight madness. When the items go on sale I tried to check how much they are being marked down. I noticed mall owners had been wiser this time. They would only get few stocks and would reorder when needed. Before, I could buy books for as low as seventy percent mark down, now not all the books go on sale. If all of them do, only up to twenty percent off. Budgeting? Count me in, folks. Well, just being wise when it comes to spending.

Today, the 30th of August is Philippines National Heroes Day, and therefore it is a holiday. No work for those that goes to the other offices at daytime. Not me, I got work. Call Centers do not have work Holiday. We do get additional pay though when we work on Philippines Holidays. I received a text message from our team captain at work that we have to render at least one hour overtime today. I replied okay, count me in. Hush! I do not want to frustrate him in exchange of my remaining vacation leave. I want him to approve the vacation leave at the latest next week.

My blog list. What they are blogging about. ♥
