Reminders to Patients

So, you are advice to take prescriptive medicines or under medication? It would he helpful if you are in the know of the possible side effects of the medicines you are taking. Normally a patient is being asked by their doctor for his medical history before the doc prescribes the medication for a particular illness. The patient is also asked for any allergy to medicines.

But how would you know you are allergic to the medicine if it will be the first time you are to take it? In a hospital they would perform a skin test, to test a patient’s vulnerability to allergic reaction. Some doctors however at a clinic, do not have the means to perform the test. They would prescribed the medicines and tell the patient to come back at a given period of time.

For those who are prescribed medicines in tablet forms. It would be a wise decision if you are not to buy all the prescribed numbers of medicines. If your doctor gave you a month prescriptions, buy a certain number of tablet first. In this way, you will not waste monies incase you are advice to discontinue taking the medicine.

Try to observe yourself for at least three days to a week for any abnormality or discomfort you experinced whenever you take the medicine. Skin rashes, dizziness, headache, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, palpitations, drowsiness could be some of the adverse side effects you could possibly experience while your system adjusts to your prescriptive medicines.

Let your doctor be aware of the side effects for possible alternative medicines. Disclose to your doctor the food supplement you are taking, if any, for possible contra indications. Likewise it would be helpful for you to be aware of your diets. Make sure you are eating the right kinds of food if you are on long term medications, like treatment for heart disease, kidney, high blood pressure, etc.

Remember, it is your body. The main responsibility to keep it clean and safe belongs to you. Your doctor is busy as you are. He may not be able to tell you everything. Your queries I am sure will be much appreciated.
