Mt Mayon Is Wide Awake

The anticipated merry makings of the Bicolanos due to Christmas celebration was suddenly put on hold. Authorities ordered residents to vacate the vicinity close to where the perfect cone-shaped volcano is located. Mayon Volcano in Albay Province, around 200 miles from Manila Philippines continued to show volcanic activities that started Dec 15th.

Around 9,000 families estimated to be around 45,000 people are now sheltered on various evacuation centers around the nearby municipalities to ensure their safety. This is tough time for the residents considering that most of the affected families are farmers. Living mainly on their live stocks and farm produced.

Local officials are closely coordinating with Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) in monitoring the volcanic activity of Mount Mayon. Latest development as of Dec. 22nd says Mount Mayon emitted very fine ashes that could trigger respiratory ailments and skin irritations. Alert level is now raised to 4 which according to Philvolcs the eruption could happen anytime, within hours of the day.
