Eye Care

Yesterday Saturday morning, after work shift I thought of having my eyes checked for possible change in my grade. It had been two years since I had my eyes checked. Ever since I had worked with a Call Center my activities had been limited to home and office. There is one new shopping center in Ayala Makati City I had not visited. There is one optical shop I was looking for. They changed their location. I thought of spending time for a reasonable price of eyeglasses and lens in case there is a need to change my eyeglasses. I found the optical shop in Glorietta 5, Ayala Center.

I advised the lady Optometrist already had a record with them two years back. She left the counter and in few minutes came back. She found my record. I did not ask if they had me in their data base or maybe found the old index card I filled out when I walk in for the first time as a new customer. I noticed when I entered the shop the space was compressed. There were limited stocks of eyeglasses frames, unlike in their former place. I thought it is probably because to have a shop in that shopping mall is expensive. The lady optometrist checked my eyes. I was happy to learn my grade did not change. I thought for a while to just pay for the consultation but changed my mind. I was so pleased by the way the lady optometrist explained to me my eye problem when I peppered her with lots of questions.

Working for customer service myself, I want to please the good eye doc. I asked for the prices of their frames and the cost of my lens. The grade of my eyes is not that much. It is just my  astigmatism that is causing my dilemma. I chose a not so expensive frame for my distance eyeglasses. After an hour of waiting and roaming around the shopping center, I am a proud owner of a stylish new eyeglasses frame. I promised to come back next month to change my frame for my reading and computer eyeglasses. I intend to go to the  Ophthalmologist accredited by our office before I change my lens. Second opinion matters at times.

Lenses are costly for both contacts and glasses when you have astigmatism. I'm right there with you as I have astigmatism as well!

Hi JP, Dont neglect your eyes... but dont get ripped off!!!
I have perfect vision luckily but maybe the interpretation of what I see needs adjustment!

Did I read your post correctly? Do you have 3 separate pairs of glasses? I have trifocals which cover distance, computer, and reading. Can't say they are easy to get use to wearing but only have to keep up with one pair of glasses. Oh...I do wear contacts occasionally but have to use reading glasses to read.
I like your new frames!

I love the new stylish glasses! I have the same problem too. I have astigmatism as well. And I haven't even gone to have my eyes checked for more than 2 years now. bad bad bad! I also wear contact lenses. You just reminded me to have my eyes checked hehe... I wish my grade is still the same for both eyes. that way I wouldn't have a problem getting 2 separate boxes of contact lens for each eyes...and they can be costly too! LOL

How is the price of glasses there? do you have to pay for eye exam? We pay $90 for eye exam and around $650 for a pair of trifocal glasses. Ridiculous prices and anyone in driving distance to the US go there instead.

The last time I had my glasses in the Philippines was in Mkatai... I believe it was in executive optical market market branch. It was because of astigmatism too... My new ones, which I rarely wear, were already bought from here in netherlands.

the frame you have is very chic! I envy that one and if that's red, I envy you even more!

@ Countrymouse,

For comparison, my two pairs of glasses costed me Eur 140 only. That was 50% of the real price as I was lucky to avail their promotion. The examination was for free and when I was uncomfy with the pair of glasses (one was normal and other made into sun glasses), they changed the glasses, gave me reexamination, free of charge. How's that?

Stylish glasses JP, now you will have to change your profile picture to show them off. Also the cost of glasses are extravagant in the UK.

@Sudhi- yes better have your eyes checked. :)@Jane-Oh, welcome to the club. Hehe..I am still comfortable wearing my eyeglasses than contact lens. Eyeglasses are alright for now.@Luke -Thanks for the reminder my friend. Do not worry I will be extra careful. :)

@Jean - I got two eyeglasses, one for distance and another for reading and computer. @ Janz - Hi there, welcome back to WWW. @Country Mouse Studio-We do not pay for the consultation if we buy the frame from them. If we do not buy we pay for the consultation. Cost of frames depends on the brand and style. Lenses vary from grade. My reading glass is a bit expensive because it is coated with anti glare.

Why all the frame and glasses so expensive nowadays? I know it will cost me at least 200 USD to get a good glasses. Uhuk2....

@Webbielady- Oh, that is great! The lens for my reading glasses if from Executive Optical, too. SM Mega Mall, Ortigas Center branch. F.Y.I Market Market is in Taguig but it is close to Makati City.@WebbieTravels- That is another great opportunity! Btw, I usually look for freebies too. @Ryan- (lol) I already showed it off. I merely got crossed eyed taking my own photo from my Nokia E71. :)

@StellaClaire-Richard-Maybe I will try contact lens in the near future. The only good about eyeglasses is, it covers my eye bag, (lol) @Jill Wellington - Yup! Love the color too. @delightfullness- (lol) That is my problem at night. I am unable to see the sign board of a jeepney.

Hi JP,
you're lucky after 2 years checked but the grade didn't change.. You know, I always checked my eyes every year.. and it's always
changed.. so I change my glasses (I mean the lenses) almost every year, you know the lensa price nowadays was more higher than the frame itself... uhhhu...

Jolly Princess said...

@Zezebel-I am also wondering why they are so expensive. In Manila however you just have to be patience enough to look for the not so expensive ones. :) @NENSA MOON - My mother can read and thread a needle without reading glasses. I envy her.
